의자를 좋아하는 배태열 디자이너는 많은 가구 중 유달리 의자에 집착한다. 듣고 보는 모든 걸 의자에 수렴하려고 하며, 책을 보다가, 영화를 보다가, 길을 걷다가 떠오른 생각이 의자로 만들어지는 과정을 즐긴다. 이번 전시에 선보이는 의자들도 이런 과정을 통해 그려지고 제작된 것이다. 군더더기 없는 담백한 디자인을 좋아하고, 그런 형태의 의자를 만들려고 노력한다. 특히 ‘Armchair’ 시리즈는 헬싱키와 암스테르담 여행에서 돌아와 제작한 작품으로 군더더기없는 심플한 디자인이 특징이다.

I like chairs. I try to converge everything that experience to chair. I enjoy the process of
making a chair that an idea it has come to mind on while reading a book, watching a movie, walking the streets. I like the horizontal and vertical 90 degree angles. After seeing the various Nordic designs I experienced during my trip to Helsinki and Amsterdam, I came back and created the ‘Armchair’ series.
